The products differ primarily in their consistency. Aesculan gel has a light, non-greasy texture and spreads quickly, while Aesculan ointment has a richer, more protective texture, allowing it to remain at the application site longer. For some patients, the ointment form is more comfortable when the anal area is irritated or requires additional protection. The products also differ in their horse chestnut bark extract content (Aesculan ointment contains 62.5 mg/g of extract, while Aesculan gel contains 50 mg/g). However, they contain the same amount of lidocaine and are intended for rectal use.

Aesculan gel is intended to relieve the symptoms of hemorrhoids. These symptoms include enlarged hemorrhoids, which are also accompanied by pain and itching. Aesculan gel is particularly effective in the early stages of the condition. It’s important to remember that if the hemorrhoids are significantly enlarged, painful, or accompanied by bleeding, you should consult a doctor, as a different treatment may be necessary.

Aesculan gel should be administered rectally using the included cannula. Typically , about 2 cm of gel (0.5–1 g) is applied to the affected area or into the rectum 2–3 times a day until acute symptoms subside. Once symptoms begin to subside, it is sufficient to use the product once a day. If you do not notice any improvement after 7 days or if your symptoms worsen, contact your doctor.

Aesculan gel is used to relieve pain and itching associated with early-stage hemorrhoids. Thanks to its lidocaine content, the product provides local anesthesia, while horse chestnut bark extract has astringent and mild anti-inflammatory properties. However, if your symptoms worsen or show no improvement despite treatment, be sure to consult a doctor.

Aesculan Gel is the former Hemoroidal Gel. The product was launched under a new brand name by the same manufacturer, while retaining the same dosage form (rectal gel) and indications for use in the treatment of hemorrhoids.
